Cirrus Icing Awareness Course and Insurance Requirements
As indicted in the POH/AFM, the pilot-in-command must successfully complete the Cirrus Icing Awareness Course or a Cirrus-approved equivalent training course, within the preceding 24 months prior to a Flight into Forecast or Known Icing Conditions. The Cirrus Icing Awareness course, offered through Cirrus Approach, provides comprehensive training on the TKS anti-ice system, proper operating procedures, and scenarios involving various icing conditions. Successful completion not only meets the Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH) or AFM requirements but also aligns with many insurance policies that mandate such training for coverage validity.
It’s advisable to consult with your insurance provider to confirm specific requirements, as they can vary. Additionally, some policies may stipulate recurrent training or additional qualifications to maintain coverage when flying in icing conditions. Regularly reviewing and adhering to both the POH/AFM limitations and your insurance policy’s stipulations will help ensure compliance and safety.
